muffintoplogo1Note: Today I’m doing something on my blog I almost never do (and I promise it’s PG-rated)… I’ve invited my friend Cathryn Michon to guest post about her amazing new movie, “Muffin Top: A Love Story.” Why am I doing this? Well, first of all I HAVE a muffin top (a few actually. They tend to multiply over the years, like chins). Secondly, I LOVE the concept of this movie… it is written by, directed by, and stars oodles of fabulous women – something which is almost unheard of in Hollywood. And thirdly, Muffin Top needs our help to make it into the theaters, and you know I’m all about women helping women, right y’all?  I hope you’ll read this post and help out, and then share the link with other women you know who want to help PUT CHICKS BACK IN FLICKS! So without further ado, heeeeeere’s Cathryn:

According to Glamour Magazine, 97 out of 100 of women report that they have at least one negative thought about their bodies per day. Every. Single. Day.

MuffinTopOneSheetv14 copyHonestly, I don’t know what’s going on with those other three ladies. Maybe they’re asleep because I’ve never met a conscious woman who doesn’t have at least one negative thing to say about her body every day. I actually have more than one negative body thought a day, but then I live and work in Hollywood, where even supermodels worry about being fat.

Again, unless they are unconscious supermodels. Which they might be, for as little as they are allowed to eat.

I’m Cathryn Michon and one of the 4% of feature film directors who are women. I just made my first independent feature, Muffin Top: A Love Story, a hilarious romantic comedy about the body insecurity madness that overtakes us… the 97%.

My movie was made by people who do not like the images Hollywood puts into the world that cause women to hate on their bodies at least once a day.

The average woman in a movie today is a size 0 to 2. The average woman in America is a size 14.
The same size as Marilyn Monroe.

Today, Marilyn Monroe would be too fat to be a sex symbol. Tell that to all the men who still want to have sex with her.

Muffin Top stars Emmy nominee Dot Marie Jones (Glee); Emmy winner Marcia Wallace (The Simpsons); Tony winner, Marissa Jaret Winokur (Hairspray) We have genuine above-the-title level movie stars (David Arquette, Haylie Duff, Markie Post) and stars of current hit TV shows like Retta (Parks and Recreation); Maria Bamford (Arrested Development). These stars worked for $100 a day and most of them gave the money back buying food and treats for the crew.

We came together to make a chick flick made by actual chicks. The stats in Hollywood about the numbers of women working in movies have never been lower in film history. Which is also crazy. Only 6% of Hollywood movies give women an equal voice.

So the movie is finished, and now we are asking YOU, the audience to give a vote of support for our film. We are using a platform called Kickstarter, where you can pledge between $1 and $10,000 and get amazing rewards for doing so. For $25 you can get the DVD; for $100 you can actually get your name in the same credit roll as the film’s stars and have the whole world know you support positive inspiring images of women. On our page you can see the movie’s trailer and hear the actors talk about our campaign.

We’ll use the money we raise to fund a Nationwide Red Carpet Premiere PUT CHICKS BACK IN FLICKS Tour of our film Muffin Top, to spotlight these issues of Gender Inequality in Media. We might even come to your town. Whatever towns make the most pledges, that’s where we going.

26b76078207c964372567ed579839fca_largeIf you’ve ever once complained about the way Hollywood portrays women, and wanted to do something real and positive to change it, this is your chance.

By the time you read this we will have one week to raise the money. On Kickstarter, if we don’t reach our goal by 3:30 P.M. PST on Thursday November 21st, we don’t get to keep a dime. The way this campaign will succeed is if thousands of women come together and pledge any amount. Any amount. It is truly, as the kids say, all good.

If we achieve our goal, I promise you, Hollywood will listen. Our stars will use their celebrity to talk about this issue in the media. They will tell the story of the 97% of us who feel bad out our bodies EVERY SINGLE DAY who came together to CHANGE THE WAY THINGS ARE and say to Hollywood:

PUT CHICKS BACK IN FLICKS. Because REAL women are REAL entertaining.
